AMERICAN PARENTS GET A WAKE UP CALL IN "THE PARENTING PRINCIPLE."
The film is the culmination of a year of work for the staff of ImageMaster Productions and may be the most inspiring television program ever produced on the topic of parenting. "The Parenting Principle" is a one hour 'call to responsibility' television documentary commissioned by the Office of the Governor Children and Youth Coordinating Council (CYCC) and sponsored by Egleston Scottish Rite Children's Healthcare System and the Office of School Readiness. "We want parents to understand that it is their responsibility to ensure that their children have the guidance and direction they need to become productive members of society," said CYCC Executive Director Judy Neal. "Too many parents are waiting for someone else to raise their children," Neal continued.
"It's not a how-to-parent program, it's a why-to-parent program," says Sean McMann, coordinating producer of the program, which will premier at 8 p.m. Saturday, December 26th on WSB Channel-2. "It's a fascinating look at parenting, as a responsibility, not a choice," says McMann, who left an eight year long career with CNN to pursue 'more socially responsible programming opportunities.' He assures viewers that they will be moved by what the show has to offer. "We've got the national Father of the Year, the top researchers of the baby brain, and parenting from a Marine drill instructor's point of view," McMann continued.
"As compelling and important as the subject matter is, the program deserved the best production quality possible," said show producer and ImageMaster President Dan Johnson. "It was clear from the initial development meetings that we had an incredible opportunity and responsibility. The intent of the show is to inspire thought and provoke positive action on the part of parents. To do that, we assembled a crew of the very best writers, producers, photographers, and editors. We've been hard at work for nearly a year and have put our hearts and souls into this project," Johnson said.
ImageMaster Productions Inc. is an independent producer of documentary, entertainment, and educational programming. ImageMaster won five Southern Regional Emmy Awards in 1998 in the following categories: Writing, Editing, Photography, Graphic Artist, and Youth Program. "The Parenting Principle" will air on statewide television during the Christmas holiday weekend. The program will also air on the Georgia Public Broadcasting network on January 6, at 7:00PM. The Children and Youth Coordinating Council will distribute VHS copies of the program to organizations working with youth.
